Colorado is presently selling Marijuana for both medical and recreational use. As of right now there are two separate markets instead of combining the two. In 2014 alone Colorado has seen a drop in Medical card holders. The state believes that the average patient numbers will continue to drop with the recreational market growing almost 20%. Eventually, the markets will combine and will have one set of regulations and tax rate.
For now, the movement moves forward using the medical use to its advantage. Companies believe that with more research they can use marijuana to not just ease the symptoms but to ultimately heal them and those are the ultimative medical marijuana opportunities. The majority of voters agree that moving the distribution out of the black market and into a taxable legal product could produce margins up to 40 billion a year.
